Giving a clarion call for holistic development of all the 955 primary schools in the district, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today coined the slogan of ‘One day, One Rupee’ for seeking participation of the industrial houses, government employees and others for improving infra structural development in these schools.
Launching the ‘Samarpan’ scheme for development of these schools, the Deputy Commissioner said that every individual would be appealed to contribute one rupee daily thereby making Rs 365 annually which would be used for improving the infra structure of the schools. He said that the industrial tycoons, government employees, social organizations and others would be roped in for making enormous contribution in this cause. Mr. Sharma said that the focus was on making private individuals an important partner in the development of the government schools.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the slips for the ‘Samarpan’ scheme would be distributed to the social activists, industrial tycoons and others for making contributions. Likewise, he said that the government departments would also be made a part of this campaign to benefit the students of the underprivileged and weaker sections of the society. Mr. Sharma said that the scheme was optional for the Educational department and they could voluntarily opt for joining this scheme.
However, the Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration would make equal contribution to the school if its Principal and teachers collect the funds under the drive to give facelift to the schools. Quoting few examples, he said that small baby steps like this could do miracles by transforming the destiny of poor students. Mr. Sharma expressed hope that the campaign would prove to be a game changer for improving educational facilities in the primary schools
On the occasion, the Additional Commissioner Mr. Jitendra Jorwal apprised the gathering about the scheme, which was his brainchild.
Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh, District Education Officer Mr. Ram Pal Saini, Deputy District Education Officer Mr. Anil Awasthi and others.
