General Election Observer for Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat Mr. I Samuel Anand Kumar today advocated the need for imparting specialized training to the poll staff for handling the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to enable them to perform their election duty efficaciously.
Interacting with the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal here at the local circuit house, the Election Observer said that the poll staff must be well acquainted with the handling and operation of the EVM and VVPAT machines so that they could perform their duty without any problem. He said that this was the need of the hour to avoid any sort of inconvenience to the people on the poll day. Mr. I Samuel Anand Kumar said that all out efforts need to be made for ensuring smooth and hassle free polling on May 19.
Responding to the issue flagged up by the Election Observer, the Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said that the district administration has already completed three rounds of booth level training to polling staff regarding the handling of the EVM and VVPATs. They said that apart from it the administration was also organizing workshops to sensitize general public about use of these machines.  
Further briefing the observer, the Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police briefed the Election Observers about the arrangements made by the administration for expenditure monitoring during upcoming Lok Sabha polls. They said that the district administration was fully committed for holding free, fair and transparent polls in Jalandhar. The officers said that there were 1863 booths across the district adding that the district administration has completed the vulnerability mapping of the district as per which 379 polling booths out of these polling booths have been identified as vulnerable.
The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police further said that there were 15.74 lakh voters in the district out of which 8.22 lakh were male, 7.52 lakh were female and 23 were third gender voters. They further said that in order to ensure free, fair and transparent polls three Flying Squad teams along-with three Static Surveillance Teams have been deployed in every assembly segment to keep a strict watch over the expenditure being made by the candidates during general elections.
On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kulwant Singh, Chief Administrator Jalandhar Development Authority Mr. Jitendra Jorwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. PBS Parmar, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Sachin Gupta and others were also present.
